November 2, 2017 — The Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF/FEESO) is proud to celebrate the Ontario Treaties Recognition Week, which will occur from November 5–11, 2017. Ontario passed legislation in May 2016 to recognize the importance of treaties and to bring awareness to the treaty relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in the province.
OSSTF/FEESO continues its commitment to developing resources and supports for members in the area of First Nations, Métis and Inuit (FNMI) education and to work with other stakeholders to support the Calls to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
OSSTF/FEESO has developed a number of resources and workshops for members. Among the resources available is Common Threads V – Full Circle: First Nations, Métis, Inuit Ways of Knowing, which is a full resource of cross curricular lesson plans and videos available to all members on the provincial website.
In addition to curriculum support, OSSTF/FEESO has a First Nations, Métis and Inuit Advisory Work Group, made up of members from across the province, which provides advice and support to the Federation on matters related to FNMI education and issues.
Members are encouraged to recognize Treaties Recognition Week in their schools and worksites from November 6–10.
