Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day 2018

October 15, 2018 — On October 16, OSSTF/FEESO will be celebrating the 18th annual Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day. This year's theme, Champions for Children, reminds us that early childhood educators (ECEs) and child care workers help to lay the foundations for future success in the lives of the children they work with.

“The expert contributions of early childhood educators are essential to the successful delivery of quality play-based learning for four-and-five-year-olds in Ontario’s elementary schools,” said OSSTF/FEESO President Harvey Bischof. “Similarly, child care workers and early childhood educators who work in early learning and care programs play a key role in strengthening our communities through the services they provide for children and their families.”

“It is regrettable that the important work of ECEs and child care workers is still largely under-appreciated and undervalued by the government, school boards and other employers,” continued Bischof. “OSSTF/FEESO remains committed to fighting for better working conditions and compensation for these workers. We will also continue to pressure school boards that routinely employ fewer ECEs than they are funded for in Kindergarten classrooms.”

OSSTF/FEESO asks all Ontarians to join us on October 16 in celebrating early childhood educators and child care workers, and acknowledging the critical role they play in the lives of Ontario’s children.
