Choice Words - How our Language Affects Children’s Learning by Peter H. Johnson

July 1, 2013 — The premise of this book is that the words we choose to use can significantly impact how students feel about themselves.  How questions are worded, or even the strategic use of silence can assist students to develop into confident learners and independent thinkers.

Our words can help students create or recreate how they see themselves and their ability to learn.  Case studies, extensive examples and analysis charts of classroom interactions assist in illustrating the points.

The content of this book is beneficial not only to educators, but to anyone who interacts with students.  The conscious choice of words can even be a lesson for parents to use with their own children in order to open up dialogue and increase communication.
