OSSTF/FEESO celebrates Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day

October 24, 2017 — On October 25, OSSTF/FEESO will be celebrating the 17th annual Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day. This year's theme, We Create a Brighter Future, reminds us that early childhood educators (ECEs) and child care workers help lay the foundations for future success in the lives of the children they work with, and thereby play a pivotal role in building stronger communities in Ontario.

“The expert contribution of early childhood educators is essential to the successful delivery of quality play-based learning for four-and-five-year-olds in Ontario’s elementary schools,” said OSSTF/FEESO President Harvey Bischof. “Similarly, child care workers and early childhood educators who work in early learning and care programs play a key role in strengthening our communities through the services they provide for children and their families.”

“It is regrettable that the government, school boards, and other employers still largely under-appreciate and undervalue the work of early childhood educators and child care workers, and that so many school boards in Ontario routinely employ fewer ECEs than they are funded for in their Full Day Kindergarten classrooms. OSSTF/FEESO asks all Ontarians to join us in acknowledging and celebrating these workers and the critical role they play in shaping the future of our communities,” concluded Bischof.
