OSSTF/FEESO Sends Letter to Bangladesh High Commission Urging the Government to Respect Workers’ Rights

February 7, 2019 — OSSTF/FEESO President Harvey Bischof sent a letter to Ambassador Mizanur Rahman from Bangladesh urging his government to respect the rights of workers in their country.

In the wake of Rana Plaza factory building collapse in 2013, which killed 1,134 garment workers and injured over 2,500 others, recent efforts by workers and unions in Bangladesh to improve workers’ rights have been met with repressive measures.  Employers have terminated thousands of workers for speaking out.  Protesting workers and union leaders have faced arrest and imprisonment for standing up for workers’ rights.

OSSTF/FEESO has joined other members of the Canadian Labour Congress to send letters to the Ambassador to call on the Government of Bangladesh to take positive actions that will respect the health, safety, rights and lives of garment industry workers in their country.
