Janet Cass Project Grant for Staff Development

The Janet Cass Memorial Fund was established at the time of her death in May of 1997. The interest from this fund is divided between two projects. One is administered by the Canadian Teachers' Federation (CTF) and the Caribbean Union of Teachers to assist women in the Caribbean to pursue a career in education.

The second project, the Janet Cass Project Grant for Staff Development, is an OSSTF/FEESO Scholarship Committee and Canadian Teachers= Federation (CTF) co-operative initiative which supports members wishing to do a field project relating to educational practices, issues or concerns related to Staff Development.  It is normally awarded every other year.  The next year this grant will be awarded is 2009-2010 for a staff development project.

1. The projects are administered through the Scholarship Committee. Applicants may apply for up to $1,500. Successful applicants must keep receipts and submit a written report before being reimbursed.
   
   
2. While the Scholarship Committee will consider all qualifying proposals, priority will be given to those projects which can be done in the classroom or within the work location with colleagues.
   
   
3. Specifically, the Grant will support costs directly related to on-site study, examination or experimentation, such as member release time, secretarial time, photocopying, telephone, postage, resource materials and printing expenses.
   
   
4. Application is made on the appropriate form through the OSSTF/FEESO Provincial Office and forwarded to the Scholarship Committee, c/o Secretariat Liaison. The deadline date for applications is January 31, 2010.
   
   
5. Applicants will be notified of the Committee=s decision following the February meeting of the Committee.
   
   
6. Applicants must provide a proposed budget as outlined on the application form.
   
   
7. Upon completion of the project, successful candidates must submit their completed report, an executive summary of the report (suitable for use in Update or Forum), and a photocopy of the receipts for the approved expenses to the OSSTF/FEESO Provincial Treasurer. A release form must be signed by the participant, permitting OSSTF/FEESO and/or CTF to use and distribute the completed report without further reimbursement/payment to the participant.
   
   
8. Payment of the grant will be made after OSSTF/FEESO has received the completed report, executive summary, signed release form, and required receipts of approved expenses.
   
   
9. OSSTF/FEESO will forward the completed report and signed release form to CTF.
