Vice President

Malini Leahy is an experienced educator, unrelenting advocate for change, and champion for protecting publicly funded education. With over 25 years of active union involvement, Malini’s commitment to the labour movement has had a positive impact at local, provincial and federal levels. Following two successful terms as executive officer, Malini was elected to serve as vice-president of the Provincial Executive of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF/FEESO) in 2023 and served on the Canadian Teachers Federation Executive Board from July 2023 to July 2025.

The labour movement is in Malini’s DNA. After leaving India and immigrating to St. Thomas, Ontario, her mother served as the local grievance officer for the Ontario Nurses Association and was the South Western regional president for RNAO.

Malini graduated from Lakehead University and upon graduation she worked for the Elgin County Board of Education before moving to Sault Ste. Marie in 1994 where she began her career as a teacher with the Sault Ste. Marie Board of Education, now known as the Algoma District School Board.

Malini has always been a fierce advocate of publicly funded education and continues her advocacy both provincially and federally in her various roles with OSSTF/FEESO.
