Inspections of Ventilation Systems in Shops

Incorrect installation and/or functioning of ventilation systems in shops generating wood dust or explosive vapours may result in the risk of fire or explosion.

All shops generating wood dust or explosive vapours, (refinishing rooms, wood shops and spray booths) require a functioning blast wall and spark arrestor.

As part of the regular inspection the school Health and Safety Representative should ensure that all shops requiring ventilation have a functioning blast wall and spark arrestor installed. These systems should be exhausted to the exterior.

Qualified HVAC technician must install and inspect these systems.
