GLADD Media Reference Guide and NLGJA Stylebook Supplement on LGBT Terminology
November 1, 2013 — The GLADD Media Reference Guide and NLGJA Stylebook Supplement (PDF) are resources created for journalists but can be very useful for any educational professional who works with gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender youth and colleagues.
These guides provide correct terminology and definitions for words that are used within and in reference to the LGBT community. The Stylebook is 8 pages of definitions, whereas the GLADD Guide is more in depth including offensive terms to avoid and defamatory language.
It also includes an “In Focus” section which looks at certain issues such as Marriage, Hate Crimes, and Sports and Homophobia.
