The Racial Justice Agent of Change Award

This award recognizes an OSSTF/FEESO member, Bargaining Unit or District who has contributed significantly to community building, outreach and advocacy, teaching and/or training relating to issues relevant to Black and racialized members. This contribution includes notable organizing efforts to dismantle anti-Black racism and racism while addressing systemic material and societal inequities that disproportionally affect Black and racialized members and communities.

Submitting an Application

The deadline for nominations is April 15 and must be submitted online by clicking on the Nomination Form link below:

The electronic form features file upload capability. You may submit attachments no larger than 20 MB. Each file should be no larger than 3MB. If you submit your online form with attachments over 20 MB, you will arrive at a "Page Not Found" error. If your attachments are large, we recommend you email them to jennifer.seif@osstf.ca.

Guidelines

Selection Criteria

The Provincial Addressing Anti-Black Racism/Racism Committee will consider the following criteria:

  • Shows evidence of community building, outreach and advocacy, teaching and/or training relating to issues relevant to Black and racialized members
  • Shows evidence of anti-racist dedication and leadership within OSSTF/FEESO locally and/or provincially
  • Strong advocate for social justice and anti-racist policy and practice within the Federation

Disclaimer

The Addressing Anti-Black Racism/Racism Committee will determine which, if any, applicant will receive the award based on the established criteria. The Addressing Anti-Black Racism/Racism Committee reserves the right not to grant the award in any given year.

Nominations

Who can submit a nomination form? A District, Bargaining Unit, or an active individual OSSTF/FEESO member in good standing.
Who is eligible for nomination? A District, Bargaining Unit, or an active individual OSSTF/FEESO member in good standing, except for current Addressing Anti-Black Racism/Racism Committee members.
What is required? Concrete examples to support the nomination. Two letters of endorsement/support for the nominee.
Where will the presentation occur? June 2024 Provincial Council
How will the winner be notified? The Secretariat member attached to the committee will contact the nominator approximately one month before the award ceremony to get the winner’s contact information. Only winning entries will be contacted.
Publicity: OSSTF/FEESO will publicize the contributions of the award winner in its publications.
