The OSSTF/FEESO Environmental Award

The OSSTF/FEESO Environmental Award celebrates the achievements of a member, District or Bargaining Unit for their dedication to environmental activism within the federation and/or community.  

Submitting an Application

The deadline for nominations is April 15 and must be submitted online by clicking on the Nomination Form link below:

The electronic form features file upload capability. You may submit attachments no larger than 20 MB. Each file should be no more than 3MB. If you submit your online form with attachments over 20 MB, you will arrive at a Page Not Found error. If your attachments are large, we recommend you email them to Yvonne.Choi@osstf.ca or mail them to Glen Hodgson. Eligible applications that were not chosen in the current year, will be held for one (1) year after their initial submission for consideration in the following year.

Guidelines

Criteria

The award is presented annually to The District, Bargaining Unit or individual member who shows environmental activism in some or all of the following areas:

  • Promoting awareness of environmental issues within their District/Bargaining Unit
  • Promoting awareness of environmental issues in education
  • Initiating and implementing measures to reduce the ecological footprint of their District/Bargaining Unit
  • Motivating others in OSSTF/FEESO to reduce the environmental impact of their union activities.

District or Bargaining Unit Award Levels

  • Sage (bronze) – The District or Bargaining Unit, which has completed at least eight (8) of the objectives from any category in the Small Steps to a Greener Union Report.
  • Forest (silver) – The District or Bargaining Unit, which has completed at least sixteen (16) of the objectives from three (3) different categories in the Small Steps to a Greener Union report.
  • Emerald (gold) – The District or Bargaining Unit, which has completed thirty-two (32) or more objectives from a minimum of nine (9) categories in the Small Steps to a Greener Union report.

Disclaimer

The Environmental Workgroup will determine which, if any, applicant will receive the award based on the established criteria. The Environmental Workgroup reserves the right not to grant the award in any given year.

Nominations

Who may submit a nomination? A District, Bargaining Unit, or individual member.
Who is eligible for nomination? A District, Bargaining Unit, or an individual Active Member, with the exception of current Environmental Work Group members
What is required? Concrete examples of relevant work accomplished to support the nomination. A District or Bargaining Unit motion of endorsement of the nominee must accompany the application.
Where will the presentation occur? Final meeting of Provincial Council of the Federation Year.
How will the winner be notified? A Staff Member assigned to the award will make contact with the nominator approximately 1 month prior to the award ceremony to get winner’s contact information. Only winning entries will be contacted.
