Briefs and Submissions

OSSTF/FEESO is often asked to provide input on a number of topics, government bills and positions and societal trends.

The Federation also routinely comments on topics that are pertinent to the membership. In this section there are the latest briefs and submissions made to government and other bodies on a variety of subjects that deal with education, social and public policy issues.

They reflect OSSTF/FEESO policies and positions.

The Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF/FEESO) welcomes the opportunity today in providing our input on Bill 212, the Education Amendment Act (Progressive Discipline and School Safety) 2007.

OSSTF/FEESO has long voiced the concerns of our approximately 60,000 members over the difficulties with the Safe Schools Act.

Ontario is at the mid-point of an electoral reform process which has the potential to create dramatic change to the Ontario political landscape. It could, possibly have a profound effect on public education and OSSTF/FEESO.

The Ontario Citizen’s Assembly was commissioned by Premier McGuinty to examine the Ontario electoral system and recommend change if necessary. The Assembly has studied electoral systems throughout the fall of 2006 and is now in its consultative phase until the end of January 2007. It will then enter a deliberative phase before it makes a recommendation in the spring.

OSSTF/FEESO president Rhonda Kimberley-Young presented the OSSTF/FEESO position to a large Citizen’s Assembly meeting Wednesday January 17th at Ryerson University.
