Our second virtual AMPA unfolds in a time of great uncertainty.  The pandemic has far- reaching, tragic effects on our members and their families, as well as devastating impacts on our communities.  These continue to be borne disproportionately by women and those facing food and housing insecurity.  We have also seen violence against Black, Indigenous and other racialized people carried out in full daylight, often by those wielding institutional authority.  This violence, and the institutions that facilitate it, are relics of a history of white supremacy that we must work to dismantle.

It’s against this backdrop that AMPA must now elect a Provincial Executive to challenge a government which poses a dire threat to public services, including education, and to the labour movement.

I am running for Executive Officer in this environment, not because I have all the answers, but because with the right team in place we can confront these problems together.  My experiences as bargaining unit president, Provincial Council Chair, OTF governor, and member of the Provincial Communications & Political Action Committee have provided the opportunity to construct relationships and develop skills that will lend strength to this team. Further, as an activist and member of the Lindsay & District Labour Council I’ve witnessed the power of collective action to fight for social justice.

I believe our opportunity lies in harnessing our members’ passions and abilities to further the movement for a more equal society.  If you share this belief I am asking for your support at AMPA.
