OSSTF/FEESO Statement against anti-Asian racism and violence

March 22, 2021 — OSSTF/FEESO denounces acts of anti-Asian racism and violence. During the COVID-19 pandemic, targeted misogynistic hate crimes have increased and continue to have a devastating impact on Asian communities in Ontario and abroad.

On Tuesday, March 16, 2021, in Atlanta, Georgia, six Asian women were victims of a horrific act of racialized and gendered violence. This hate crime affected not only the victims but has had a significant negative impact on the Asian community as a whole. Many OSSTF/FEESO members have experienced and continue to experience anti-Asian racist remarks and threats of violence. We must continue to acknowledge that racism exists and take the necessary steps to become anti-racists.

OSSTF/FEESO encourages its members to continue to speak out and stand up against violence and hate.
