OSSTF/FEESO releases Strengthen Public Education—Rebuild Ontario

June 24, 2021 – TORONTO, ON — Today, the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF/FEESO) officially released Strengthen Public Education—Rebuild Ontario, a document outlining the Federation’s vision for publicly-funded education in Ontario in a post-pandemic world and beyond.

The document outlines five pillars for the future of public education in the province, which include:

  • Increasing Student-Centred Supports and Services
  • Centring Schools as Part of Our Communities
  • Addressing Systemic Inequities
  • Improving Learning Conditions for All
  • Providing Safe, Healthy Learning and Working Conditions

“As we emerge from the COVID-19 global pandemic, we want to present a clear vision to protect and enhance public education in Ontario for years to come,” said Karen Littlewood, the incoming President of OSSTF/FEESO.

“OSSTF/FEESO believes that a strong publicly-funded education system continues to be essential to Ontario’s future. The global pandemic presented unprecedented challenges and revealed the deep levels of inequities in the province. We urge everyone to join us in building for a better tomorrow in education, one that moves beyond status quo,” concluded Littlewood.

Strengthen Public Education—Rebuild Ontario is available on the OSSTF/FEESO provincial website.

OSSTF/FEESO, founded in 1919, has over 60,000 members across Ontario. They include public high school teachers, occasional teachers, educational assistants, continuing education teachers and instructors, early childhood educators, psychologists, secretaries, speech-language pathologists, social workers, plant support personnel, university support staff, and many others in education.
